CrossFit Cobourg

Scott Carreira

My story:

Coaching has always been in my blood. From volunteering my time for young curlers, volleyball teams, or badminton I have always enjoyed helping others achieve their goals. I first started doing CrossFit without even knowing about the sport. I was tired of the same old boring workouts at the local "Globo Gym". I started making my own WOD's and performing them on a daily basis. Next thing I knew, I met this great guy that had similar views on fitness. He introduced me to CrossFit. This young man's name was Bud, my business partner. As each day passed we were realizing that this was the most fun, and most effective way to achieve our goals. With CrossFit programming, you are always on your toe's, for you never know what the next WOD might throw at you. The sport of CrossFit is now part of my everyday life and I would not have it any other way. Hearing the life changing stories, helping you achieve your goals, and seeing the smiles on your faces, make's waking up each and everyday more enjoyable for me.

For the last 5 summers I have been a Forest Fire Fighter for the Ministry of Natural Resources. This job is exciting and very physically demanding. Over the years I have worked my way up to a Crew Leader, (the supervisor of a 4 person crew). I have put Fire Fighting on hold to pursue a dream of mine to help others achieve their fitness goals.

Opening up CrossFit Cobourg is truly a dream come true!!

Experience with sports:

Sports have always been a huge part of my life. Living in a small northern town (Geraldton), the only way to keep busy was to stay active on a regular basis. You name the sport and I love playing it. I have played badminton for Cambrian's varsity team, for 3 years. Been refereeing hockey for 10 years. The last few years I have been in Sudbury refing all the way up to AAA Midget hockey. CrossFit has been a part of my life for over a year. Each and every day my love for the sport only grows. The feeling of coaching that new movement for the first time, or giving some encouragement for those last few reps makes me feel like I am making a difference daily.

Favourite W.O.D:

If I had to choose only one WOD, I would have to say "Annie" 50-40-30-20-10 of Double Unders/Sit-Ups, but the fact of the matter is I love them all. The "HERO" WODs are so challenging, and mind over matter factor is the greatest feeling in the world!

My Story:

I was first introduced to CrossFit by my friend Brett who was a co-worker at the time. I decided to give it a try one day with Brett at our local YMCA. The workout we attacked was only 10 minutes but I felt like I had just finished an uphill marathon. It was at that moment I realized there was more to fitness and I was not performing to my full potential. CrossFit workouts began making an appearance in my weekly schedule regularly and my love for them only grew. At the time I was currently enrolled in the Fitness Leisure Business program at Cambrian College in Sudbury. I decided for my Co-op placement I would knock on CrossFit Sudbury's door and see if they had any positions available. Adam Ball and the CF gang welcomed me with arms wide open. This was my first experience in an actual CrossFit Box and I was hooked beyond what words can describe. Not a day goes by that I don't think about coaching or getting a W.O.D in with the gang.

Experience with sports:

When I was younger my favourite sport was hockey. My parents committed a huge amount of their time shuttling me around the province so I could pursue my passion. I played 2 years as a Central Ontario Wolf out of Lindsay and 1 year as a Quinte Red Devil in Belleville. I played on the C.D.C.I West varsity team for 5 years and loved every second. During Post-Secondary I played on the Cambrian Shield Varsity badminton team for 2 years and even had the pleasure of advancing to the OCAA championships (2013). It was one of my very first practices that I met Scott as he was assisting in the coaching of the team. I guess being a coach is in his blood!

Favourite W.O.D:

At this point...13.3 from 2013 OPEN - 12 minute AMRAP 150 wallballs, 90 double unders, 30 muscle ups although I may find a new favourite in the near future.
